2024 Update: Phase 3 of the Lake Waramaug Association’s “Lake It Grow” initiative is complete! This year we planted a majority of the new trees in the area about halfway along the lakeside near the Harriet Lee Hall Memorial Bench. This is an area that has lost a large number of trees to disease and old age and needs to have more shade. We now have enough trees to make a significant difference to this part of the lake, however, it will take a number of years to achieve this goal. Thanks to the generous donations from LWA members, friends, and neighbors you can see the impact these trees will have in the future. We have now planted a total of 41 trees in Lake Waramaug State Park!
2023 Update: In early November 2023, thanks to the generous donations from LWA members, friends, & neighbors, 12 additional trees were planted at the Lake Waramaug State Park adding to the first 14 new trees planted under Phase 1 in November 2022. With these 26 new trees, we are on our way towards achieving our goal of restoring the State Park's once deeply wooded campsite and waterfront.
Each year, with your help, the Lake Waramaug Association plans to support the planting of dozens more new trees as a part of our mission to “preserve Lake Waramaug and its environs as a natural, historical, residential, and recreational area and to promote the safety, health, and enjoyment of those who use the Lake.” Together we can “Lake It Grow” and ensure Lake Waramaug remains a recreational haven for all now and for years to come.
2022 Update: The first 14 trees - Pin Oak, Maple ‘October Glory,’ Sycamore, Red Maple ‘Red Point,’ and English Oak - were selected and placed in partnership with Lake Waramaug State Park’s DEEP Supervisor Steve Merchant, Lake Waramaug Task Force’s Executive Director Sean Hayden, and LWA Board of Directors’ Lake It Grow Committee Chairs Claire Guadagno and Chris Spring taking into account the health of the young trees as well as the natural beauty and health of the lake and environs. The goal was to scatter the placement “as if done by Mother Nature.” The trees were purchased at Kent Greenhouse and Gardens in Kent, and Meadowbrook Nursery in New Milford.
The next 12 trees - Sugar Maples, Nyssa, Burr Oak, Scarlet Oak, and Pin Oak - were selected to complement the first group of trees. The trees were purchased at Kent Greenhouse and Gardens in Kent.
Special thanks to the State Park team for the planting. Thank you for your support!
