Please click here to RSVP. Agenda will include details about our LAKE IT EASY water and boating safety campaign, annual Fireworks Celebration July 4, hikes co-sponsored with local land trust partners, and our second annual Block Party on the Lake July 20. Light refreshments will be served. Looking forward to seeing you on June 9th!
The Kent Land Trust (KLT), the Warren Land Trust (WLT) and the Lake Waramaug Association (LWA) invite you to join us on Sat. June 1st at 10:00am for Trails Day 2024! This year we are showcasing new trails on adjoining KLT and WLT preserves located in the Lake Waramaug watershed. These trails feature scenic old walls, rock outcroppings of every size and shape, lovely streams, meadows and marshy areas, a walk alongside Beaman Pond and a glimpse of Lake Waramaug along with the chimney and foundation walls of an historic farm building.
The hike which we estimate will take approximately 2 hours starts at WLT’s Cunningham Nature Preserve and winds through both that preserve and KLT’s East Kent Hamlet Nature Preserve before looping back through Cunningham once more. The trail is approximately 3.5 miles long, has an elevational change of about 580 feet and should be considered MODERATELY DIFFICULT. As always, STURDY HIKING SHOES are the best footwear; mud, though not widespread, should always be considered a possibility in our New England climate, and bringing BUG SPRAY & WATER is never a bad decision. We will have board members and staff from our respective organizations to guide you, and snacks for that appetite you’re sure to work up!
We look forward to welcoming you to Kent Land Trust, Warren Land Trust and the Lake Waramaug Association’s 2024 Trails Day hike! It’s going to be a great one. Click here to register.
Join us for an exciting and memorable experience for all at the Lake Waramaug State Park Pavilion. Free. All Ages Welcome. Sponsored by the Lake Waramaug Association.
This 1-hour event will feature 5-6 live birds of prey (hawks, owls, and falcons). The birds were all injured in the wild here in CT and have not recovered enough for release. They have been entrusted to Christine’s Critters by the USFWS to enhance their educational programs. The birds can teach us a variety of lessons including how to be better stewards of our local environment through environmental action and how to help prevent some of the common injuries to these raptors that are caused by mankind.
Christine’s Critters is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that rescues and rehabilitates more than 100 injured raptor patients each year in an attempt to heal their injuries for release. Their educational programs fund their wildlife rehabilitation program and allow the purchase of food, medical supplies, and veterinary care for their patients. Please note: Due to federal regulations, the birds cannot be touched by members of the public.

Come out for a fantastic 2.8 mile moderate woodland hike led by a Kent Land Trust guide and a representative from the LWA hiking committee. Saturday, October 7th at 10:00 AM. Register here: bit.ly/registerforhike (Registration is required to communicate weather-related changes).
Learn the fascinating history of this property and its myriad caretakers, see how the Kent Land Trust is working to restore and nurture native habitats. The 2.8 mile long lollypop-shaped loop trail leads downhill to the west for some length, then turns south following the slope contour, to an abandoned apple orchard. It finally turns east, looping back to a junction that returns to the starting place over the same steep terrain. The small unnamed stream flowing downward first feeds Irving Pond, then Bull Mountain Brook, enroute to the Housatonic River several miles away. KLT's Iron Mountain Preserve.
Where to meet? Access to Iron Mountain Preserve is from a small parking lot near the junction of Flat Rock Road and Treasure Hill Roads in South Kent. Parking on Treasure Hill. Entrance to the trail is from the north of the parking area. Click here for the preserve map.
Please wear sturdy footwear, and bring a water bottle and your curiosity.
